Scenario 2 - The Hu-Man Encampment

Armies are marching. In the east, the forces of the Jungle Deep have swept all before them, destroying villages, burning farms, and crushing what little resistances the forces of Alladore have been able to mount. Now, the king has dispatched a new army, under the command of his cousin Lord Arklin, to form a new line of defence anchored on the Scree. His first task is to stop the advance of evil, and then counterattack, hoping to drive them back into the dark. Numerous ranger companies travel with the army, operating as scouts and messengers, finding safe routes of march, and fighting small skirmishes with advance parties of Hu-Mans.
Meanwhile, within the dark realm of the Jungle Deep, more experienced rangers have been tasked with attacking the enemy supply lines in an effort to prevent reinforcements from moving to the eastern front. The more damage that can be done, the more men the enemy will have to commit to protecting its lines of advance. It is a dangerous game of cat and mouse, and, every so often, the rangers come across something that they have never seen before.…

Scenario 2 - The Hu-Man Encampment

For two days you’ve shadowed a group of Hu-Mans as they’ve made their slow way through the forest of dead trees. Although the thick, polluted air of the Jungle Deep has made the journey a struggle, the eternal dimness has a helped keep you out of sight. That night, just after the Hu-Mans made camp, they were joined by a small group of masked men. You watched from the shadows as the leader of the cultists met with the Hu-Man's shaman. The cultist carried a set of bound scrolls, which he presented to the shaman. Then he pointed over a far hill. Once you’ve dealt with these monsters, you’ll scout in that direction.
A few moments later, the cultists and the shaman all disappeared into the largest tent in the centre of the camp. You waited. Slowly the noise of the camp died down, and the fires burned low. Only a few Hu-Mans were left patrolling the camp. Now is the time to strike.

Slipping back to your companions, you explain the situation. While you are unlikely to be able to take out the whole encampment, a quick decapitation strike could reduce the group to chaos. Plus, you really want to know what is contained on those scrolls....

The Hu-Mans had set up their camp around the ruins of an Alladorean farm, the Cultist Leader and the Shaman consorting within its walls.  Heavy smoke was rising up through the chimney, adding to the already cloying odour of the Jungle Deep.

Sobek about to tear the farmhouse a new one

These were experienced rangers and their companions, and they swiftly overcame enemy resistance outside, and slipped into the tent.  hey were met by fierce resistance, from multiple Hu-Man Champions and cultists, determined on protecting their leaders.

Keila and Smesh were the first through the door, swinging axe and broadsword in unison.

The fierce Sobeq was the next through, tearing a hole in the farmhouse wall to let his companions in.  Jagged lightning brought down by the enemy shaman hurt him badly, but did not throw him off stride.

Bohwihsh grabbed the Hu-Man's treasure, Smesh found the scrolls tucked into a crate in one corner of the room, and even Szarseesi found time to pick up some treasure.

Enemy reinforcements had begun spilling out of the tents, but the Twins were outside to bring them down with showers of crossbow bolts, whilst Bohwihsh's faithful Battle Ram kept others at bay.  Within the tent, Sobeq pulled the shaman's head clean off his shoulders, whilst the other heroes struck down their enemies one after another. They now came boiling out of the tent, to the great surprise of the Hu-Mans amassing outside.

The fight was pretty much one-sided, and the heroes were able to slip away into the Jungle Deep without pursuit.  They certainly had struck a blow against the Jungle Deep this day.

No Hero was put Out of Action during the fighting.

In this adventure, characters return to full Health at the end of each scenario.

We use our house rules for XP acquisition for Rangers and PPs for Companions.

Unfortunately I forgot to keep my notes, but The Twins reached Level 11, and Keila reached the landmark of Level 5.  Bohwihsh was just short of the same achievement...and then reached it thanks to the "Gold and Jewels" he had found in the tent.

Szarseesi had found a very interesting weapon, and thanks to her extensive knowledge, revealed its secrets (a successful TN22 Armoury Roll, no less !).  She had found the "Three Teeth", a set composed of a dagger and two oddly balanced but particularly deadly (+1 instead of -1) Throwing Knives, the whole set being 0 encumbrance.

All Heroic Abilities and Spells used are regained.

In this mission, reorganisation occurs at the end of a scenario, but very special rules are applied to it.  You will have to wait for the next adventure, to find out who then stands alongside each of the four rangers involved in "The Demon Stone"....
