Experience and Ranks

The following house rules for XP gain add a little friendly competition, and also allow Companions to progress more swiftly.  As Rangers and Companions increase in Level, they acquire a title - a sort of rank.

XP Gain :

XP gains from a scenario are defined either as "individual gains" or as "group gains".  XP for killing monsters are always "individual gains".

Each character - Ranger or Companion - notes down individually gained XP during the scenario.

1)  The total individual XP for a Ranger's group is added up, multiplied by the number of Rangers in the game, and added to the XP for "group gains".  This is the XP the Ranger acquires from the scenario.

Example : a Ranger kills a Ghoul (3 XP).  One of his Archer companions kills a monster (12 XP), whilst a Knight investigates a room, which was determined beforehand to be an "individual XP" gain, for 5 XP.

There are two Rangers in the game.  The second Ranger and his team had a bad day, slaying no-one and doing nothing else of note.

The company have also gained 10 "Group XP" for having successfully discovered a vital clue due to their different actions.

Ranger 1 will gain (3+12+5)*2  = 40 + 10 = 50 XP for this scenario

Ranger 2 will gain (0) * 2 = 0 + 10 = 10 XP

2)   Each Companion (not Ranger) gains an additional 1 PP for each full 5 XP he personally brought his Ranger.

In the previous example, Ranger 1's Archer Companion was still standing at the end of the scenario.  This brings him, as usual, 2 PP but having brought in 12 XP for his Ranger, he gets an additional +2 PP, for a total of 4.  Ranger 1's Knight Companion was taken out during the scenario, but survived.  He gains the usual +1 PP, and an additional +1 PP for his personal contribution to the XP gain.  It makes no difference who discovered the 10 XP vital clue, as it is a group gain acquired through the actions of many.  Should the 10 XP have been a group gain made by the Companion (for example, having succeeded on a Task Roll), that Companion would have gained a further +2 PP.

Ranks :

With each Level a title is associated, to which a Ranger or Companion appends the word of his choice.

For example, Corwen is a Level 5 Ranger, meaning he is a "Watcher".  Given his discretion, he chooses "Silent".  He is now Corwen Silentwatcher, until he becomes Level 6.

As for Arwen, a Level 3 Knight, who recently escaped harm from a deadly trap, he goes by the moniker of Swift-of-thought.
