"No sweat."
What better companion to second you on a quest which has taken you out of the Known World ? Like all his camel brethren, Ythareh is a pillar of endurance. His entire anatomy seems devoted to reducing water loss, and transforming fatty reserves into water as required.
He can eat like four horses, then go for weeks without needing to eat a thing, and content himself with almost any plant material, his tough mouth capable of resisting even thorn bushes.
Once his reserves are full, he can go ten to twenty days without water, and can even, if needed, ingest salt water to keep himself going.
He is virtually immune to sickness, ignores temperature variations, shrugs off excessive heat and can do all and walk fifteen leagues per day during a week whilst toting six hundred pounds of equipment.
Yes, he does smell a but ripe, and yes, his treacle-like urine, if sprayed upwind, can force clearance of an entire camp-site, but you get used to it once your mucus membranes have burned up.
Ythareh is a highly skilled fighter, and went from being Prince Erenthal's weapons master during the owl's youth, to the chief of his bodyguard when he reached manhood.
