During his time as a lighthouse-keeper, Scorpen discovered, on the barren rock that had become his temporary home, this strange little creature.  Covered with a stone-like outer shell, it was utterly immune to Scorpen's poison, and both seemed to need some company.  The little creature, intelligent but without speech, has followed its companion across the known world.
