"Thick or thin, bamboo bends. In fiercest winds will not break. Nor silence shatter."
Archipelago dwellers in need of inner contemplation will thrust through the thickest, gloomiest forest, by hot sun or heavy downpour, to reach a monastery and hope for a chance to spy a Red Panda master, perched one-legged on the highest branches, chewing thoughtfully on a bamboo-stick as the falling rain gently covers his fur.
Olivia
grew up in such a monastery, third daughter to such a philosopher.
Many other Elaïn species lived there, of course, but Red Pandas were the
most prevalent. Unlike the majority of her brethren, Olivia was not
born zen. After endless hours of squinting into the sun reflecting off fallen rain, countless bowls of bamboo stew, and some history-making epic
failures in haiku contests, the young panda decided to take what she had
learned out into the wider world.
Which is basically : breaking heads with a large stick and then, because if she doesn't shrug from violence at need, she abhors its consequences, mending them. She is passibly good at both.
In her free time she writes haikus because, well, that was quite an embarassing part of growing up. Self-improvement, and all that.
