"Let there be light !"
Out in the Tollonian Principalities, nobles die all the time. In battle, stabbed in the back on a dark night, or poisoned. The latter is where the different species totally immune to poison come in to their own. Scorpen spent a good few years as a food-taster in the court of a Tollonian duke, kept his feasting healthy until, well, he got stabbed in the back on a dark night. Someone elses' problem, that.
Scorpen learned his photokinesis from his younger days, as a magic-sensitive dwelling in the
upper layers of the abyss, where light is still present, but a very rare
commodity.
The only problem with species immune to poison, is that they are generally pretty deadly themselves. Scorpen's many spines are full of the stuff, and will drop a guy dead if he even gets a scratch; so neither crowded streets nor fun-filled parties are really on the menu. The next job was a lighthouse keeper in Lorenthia : mastery of light required, and nobody to accidentally impale within ten leagues.
When the Jungle Deep struck, Scorpen used his magic to assist a rescue fleet from Alladore in approaching the shoreline, to evacuate as many survivors as possible. The Deep itself couldn't reach him on his lonely rock, and he withstood a siege by its minions for almost a week, before they finally got a toehold. The last ships away, Scorpen dived into the sea, to be the last person evacuated. You have to give him a wide berth, and know which blanket he is rolled up in at night, but Scorpen is a valiant ally on any expedition on land or sea.
