'Bottomfeeder' is not exactly a compliment amongst the different fish-folk of the Elaïn.  Peoples who hail from estuary waters in close proximity to freshwater babelushga fish command even less respect; to make matters worse they are much smaller in size than their fully sea-dwelling brethren.  Hence they tend to have more in common with other river dwellers, such as frog or newt-folk.

Who cares about such fishy politics anyway ?  Godric Drake is a three-foot tall condensing of pure, gritty, determination.  His parents wanted him to be an abacus pusher, like his father and grandfather before him.  Instead, he has studied with unflagging enthusiasm the arcane arts, and those of strategy.  The turtle shell he carries is not, as it first appears, a shield.  Instead, by exposing it to flame and reading its marks and cracks, he can communicate with the world beyond, he can reach into a treasure trove of ancient lore.  It is one of the many handy tricks he learned from actually listening to what his teachers had to say, and pestering them about it after class in his endearing fashion.

After years of adventuring, and wise counsel to some of the greatest Rangers of Alladore, Godric Drake has been promoted himself to that illustrious rank.  He is believed to be the shortest Ranger in the kingdom.

He is also quite handy with a spear, as long as his target has something worth poking at kneecap height.
