Chipmunks are most often sought after as builders.  Whilst many creatures can dig extensive burrows, chipmunks use their highly flexible cheek-pouches, which they can swell up to their own body size, to evacuate the earth.  Chipmunk-made burrows are therefore tidy, clean and very stylish and homely dwellings.

Chipmunks themselves live in burrows that are full to the brim with all sorts of things they like to hoard, all carefully ordered.  Partoghimeos inherited, from his parents, their neat and tidy mindset, but decided very young that what he wanted to accumulate was knowledge.  One thing led to another, and to studies in magic, and the choice to train as a thaumaturge, who are known for both wisdom and benevolence.

Partoghimeos' tortoise, Malu, is a highly intelligent Maïren, who whilst patiently carrying his companion on his back, discusses all kinds of matters with him, helping the mage to organise his thoughts.  His measured gait is also ideal for taking forty winks.
