Some of her students pretend that the only reason Tazabeth became an arcanist, was to get the most comfortable chair in the students reading room.  She certainly does enjoy the pleasures of a room heated by a flickering fire, surrounded by piles of books and scrolls telling the infinite tales of the past, and nothing beats curling up around the odour of a millenia old scroll.  Being an expert on the mythology of Old Shava may indeed seem quaint, and whilst the command of fourteen languages is wildly impressive, they are all dead and appear rather dusty.

If only the same students could see Tazabeth out in the field, swinging mace and thrusting spear so that the Jungle Deep will not swallow up the past as it swallows up the world.  Tazabeth knows that men and women will fight harder if they are aware of what a legacy is, and that is one of the purposes of tales of demi-gods and heros.
