"Sure I'll drink a beer with you and we can share tall tales. But whatever you do, don't pat me on the back".
The species that, among the Mairen, are separated into frogs and toads, have evolved into a common Elaïn species, uniting the characteristics of both.
Almost all of the Anura have skin glands that secrete toxins under duress, and in certain individuals it can be deadly. Unusually for Elain, they hence often live amongst themselves, and shun, or are shunned by, urban communities.
Given their liking for water, Anura communities have built up along the banks of the great rivers, such as the Enthel in the east of Alladore, the Nylen in the west, and the Nar. They often play an important role in river traffic, be it as boatmen, fishermen - remember that all species of freshwater fish are babelushga - or as traders; and the fear that they strike into others, warranted or not, keeps competition at bay. They can also be found along the waterfront in cities such as Portrerik. It is said there that the croaky singing of an Anura is loud enough to either fill or empty a tavern in minutes.
Walosi was a simple fisherman dwelling along the banks of the Enthel, driven from his home during the first days of the invasion of Alladore by the Jungle Deep. His intimate knowledge of the fast-flowing Enthel, which has quickly adapted to the changes brought about by the Jungle Deep, have proven useful to the kingdom on several occasions already. Who ever would have imagined that easy-going young Walosi would, one day, be ferrying Rangers of Alladore behind enemy lines ?
